Sylvain is a biomedical technician in Port-Au-Prince. This is his story.
Biomedical technicians are responsible for making sure that hospital equipment is in correct working order, allowing the medical team to monitor, diagnose, and treat patients. Sylvain puts quality control and maintenance systems in place to ensure that equipment remains up and running at all times. Training is a significant part of his role, as the aim is for the national team to continue the maintenance of the equipment after he leaves.
