Pierre-Nicolas, GP in Congo
Portrait
Here is Pierre-Nicolas’ story: he is the lead doctor for the paediatric ward and therapeutic feeding centre in a hospital in the Congo.
After a briefing with teams to find out what has happened overnight, Pierre-Nicolas spends the whole morning with patients in the paediatric ward. He doesn’t speak Lingala, so he is always accompanied by a translator. He oversees the care of patients in over 20 beds in paediatrics and 20 in the feeding centre. Amidst a resurgence of malaria cases, the Swiss MSF doctor is learning every day from the Congolese MSF medical staff, who have extensive clinical knowledge of the disease.
