EDUCATION
- Diploma in water engineering, specialist in water treatment, geologist, hydrogeologist, repair technician or have other technical qualifications related to this sector of activity.
EXPERIENCE
- 2 years working experience
- Significant experience in humanitarian WATSAN
- Experience in health facilities or epidemic response
- Experience in infection prevention and control (IPC)
- Supervisory and/or training experience is a definite plus
SKILLS
- Team management and technical supervision skills
- Strong ability to adapt in emergency situations
- Leadership or training skills are a plus
- International and humanitarian experience is an asset.
KEY ASSETS
- Experience with Ebola or Marburg
- Experience with cholera
- Experience with CTE/CTF
- Experience with MSF or an international medical NGO
- Experience in biosafety and managing high-risk areas
- Ability to deploy on short notice for emergency missions.
AVAILABILITY
- 3 months for deployment to an Ebola response project
- 6 to 12 months for regular programs
LANGUAGES
- French at the B2 level preferred, B1 minimum
- English at the B1 level (other regular programs)
EBOLA RESPONSE | DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO PROJECT WATSAN TEAM LEADER / CTE WATSAN MANAGER / EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES WATSAN MANAGER In response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Doctors Without Borders is strengthening its WATSAN teams and seeking experienced professionals to support the deployment and management of infection prevention and control (IPC), biosafety, and environmental health activities.
WATSAN teams are at the heart of the Ebola response. They contribute directly to the protection of patients, healthcare workers, and communities through the management of water, hygiene, sanitation, environmental decontamination, infectious waste, and the safe handling of the deceased.
3 different positions :
WATSAN MANAGER AT AN EBOLA TREATMENT CENTER (ETC)
Within an Ebola Treatment Center (ETC), you will actively participate in infection prevention and control through:
- the management of water, sanitation, and hygiene;
- the management of biomedical waste;
- the supervision of cleaning and decontamination operations;
- the control of clean and contaminated pathways;
- enforcing biosafety procedures;
- overseeing procedures for donning and doffing full PPE;
- the safe management of bodies, from preparation through transfer to a dignified and secure burial.
WATSAN MANAGER EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES
You will coordinate WATSAN and infection prevention and control (IPC) activities in healthcare facilities outside the ETC and at the community level.
Your work will focus in particular on:
- water, sanitation, and hygiene systems
- environmental decontamination
- infectious waste management
- screening and triage systems
- preparing health facilities for the safe management of suspected cases
- implementing biosafety measures
- preparing for the safe management of the deceased in peripheral facilities and communities
WATSAN PROJECT TEAM LEADER
You will provide technical and operational coordination for all WATSAN activities within the project.
You will supervise several WATSAN Managers and ensure:
- the consistent application of WATSAN and PCI standards
- the quality of environmental decontamination activities
- the management of infectious waste
- compliance with biosafety procedures
- the proper use of PPE
- the management of high-risk areas
- the safe handling of the deceased
- team training, coaching, and development
- quality control of operations carried out across all supported facilities.
